Release Time:2022-07-15 10:34:10

On July 13, the completion and opening ceremony of Kenya's A4 highway built by the China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation was held in Maralal, the capital of Samburu County. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta attended the ceremony, and Kenya's Minister of Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Director General of Kenya National Highways Authority, and representatives of project contractors witnessed the ceremony together.

President Kenyatta travelled along and inspected the new highway by car. He fully affirmed that China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation completed the project and made it open to traffic on schedule with both quality and quantity guaranteed. After the highway is open to traffic, it will be of positive effect in promoting local economic development and improving people's livelihood.

Project A4 is one of nine roads constructed in Kenya by China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation, with a total length of 65 kilometers. It crosses Laikipia and Samburu counties and is the first asphalt highway in Samburu County.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic in the past two years has brought many challenges to the implementation of the project, the project department strictly guards against the epidemic situation and ensures that the project progress is implemented as planned. The successful handover of the project connects Rumuruti, the capital of Laikipia County, and Maralal, the capital of Samburu County, shortening the original three-hour drive to one and a half hours.

Large-scale resident gatherings and commodity markets have formed in the towns of Posta, Suguta and Kisima, through which the highway passes, which greatly facilitates the external sales and transportation of the livestock such as cattle and sheep as well as the agricultural products in this area.

The dam built by the project department along the highway has solved local residents' difficulties with water. Mugie, a wildlife reserve in this area, will also attract more tourists thanks to the convenient transportation, promoting employment and development.
