Successful Training for Administrative Staff and Core Teachers of African Vocational Colleges

The offline teaching for the training program of administrative staff and core teachers of African vocational college, sponsored by China Education Association for International Exchange and ATUPA, undertaken by AVIC INTL, was successfully held in Kumasi Technology University, Ghana, and in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, on April 22 to 33 and April 25 to 26.

As one of the sub-project under the framework of "Future of Africa - China-Africa TVET Cooperation Program", the training program of administrative staff and core teachers of African vocational college consists of the online training and offline teaching. This training block is aimed at college leaders, teaching principals, and relevant professional leaders of the Africa program. It covers theoretical knowledge, cutting-edge professional technology, educational philosophy, teaching methods, curriculum design, and evaluation. The teaching block aims to improve the professional and technical ability of the administrative staff and teachers of the African colleges through practical training, enhance the communication and exchange between Chinese and African teachers, and help cultivate African technical and skilled talents.

The offline training undertaken by AVIC INTL was carried out simultaneously in Ghana and Kenya. In Ghana, the offline training is performed in the new campus of Kumasi Technology University, and it consists of skill training on civil engineering and electromechanical engineering, covering 25 trainees. In Kenya, it is on-site study and investigation centering on electrical engineering in three landmarks in or around Nairobi: GTC (Global Trade Center), Two Rivers, and Karimenu II dam. 22 students from Kenya University of Science and Technology and 2 representatives of ATUPA attend the training.

Mr. Johannes Mutike from the Secretariat of ATUPA spoke highly of the project. He said that the Kenyan core teachers broadened their horizons, learned advanced teaching ideas, and enhanced theoretical basis, practical ability, and understanding of integration of industry and education through site leaning.

This transnational TVET training project organized by CEAIE identifies a beneficial exploration to promote China teaching standards of TVET to the world, and significantly expands the breadth and depth of China-Africa TVET cooperation.

"Future of Africa - China-Africa TVET Cooperation Program" is an important part of the "Capacity Building Project" of the "Nine Projects" proposed by President Xi Jinping at the 8th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2021, and is implemented by both CEAIE and ATUPA.
