
Completion Ceremony of the Katana Water Supply Project in Sri Lanka
On March 22, the completion ceremony of Katana Water Supply Project, undertaken by the AVIC-INTL Engineering Company with load from the China Development Bank, was held in in Nigambu, western province of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's minister of water supply Vasudevo, minister of health Fernando Pule, and minister of urban and rural development Nishata, cut the ribbon for completion of the project.
The Katana Water Supply Project is an important livelihood project in Sri Lanka, providing more than 1000 direct jobs during its implementation. The successful implementation of the project can effectively alleviate the prominent problem of high incidence of kidney disease caused by the drinking water difficulties among 220,000 residents in 45 villages in Katana area, and greatly improve the quality of life of local residents. Additionally, the completion of this project also can alleviate the water supply pressure of the Bandaranaike International Airport and industrial park of the bureau of investment (BOI), and help the development of industrial economy in Sri Lanka.
The Katana Water Supply Project is a landmark water project of the AVIC-INTL Engineering Company. During the period, our team overcame so many difficulties such as the "4.21 terrorist attack", the new crown pneumonia epidemic, and the changeable harsh climate, with the strong support and help from the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, China Development Bank, and various departments of Sri Lanka, we delivered the project on schedule.
Since the commencement, the project has maintained a good construction schedule and quality image, and the overall progress ranks the first position among all the projects under construction of the owner. In addition, the project team adheres on fulfilling its social responsibility, and committed on supporting the local people's livelihood and education, and won the unanimous praise from the owner, surrounding residents, and Sri Lanka government, and laid the sound foundation for subsequent pragmatic cooperation between China and Sri Lanka.
