
Extension of Southern Expressway in Sri Lanka into Operation
On February 23, as the key project of the “Belt and Road” project undertaken by CATIC International Engineering, the Extension of Southern Expressway in Sri Lanka was officially put into operation. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Cheng Xueyuan, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, etc. attended the opening ceremony during which they cut the ribbon and experience the ride.
The Extension of Southern Expressway has a total length of 96 kilometers and is one of the key projects of the "Belt and Road" initiative jointly built by the Chinese and Sri Lankan governments. It is divided into 4 bid sections and the first section has the longest mileage with the most difficult construction, which was built under contract with the CATIC International Engineering.
During the ceremony, CATIC International Engineering also donated school supplies to schools along the route. The company has had their sweat shed on the land of Sri Lanka for many years, made remarkable achievements in infrastructure construction, and accumulated valuable experience. Moreover, CATIC International Engineering also actively carried out public welfare activities to practice corporate social responsibility and effectively raise the brand notability and reputation of AVIC.
